Construction has officially commenced in England on the Eternal Wall of Answered Prayer, a monumental structure designed to collect and showcase testimonies of divine intervention.

The ambitious project, spearheaded by Richard Gamble, is set to become the United Kingdom’s largest Christian monument. Towering at 168 feet tall, the Wall is so vast it will surpass the size of the iconic 98-foot Christ the Redeemer statue in Rio de Janeiro, potentially making it the largest Christian monument in the world.

According to the Christian Broadcasting Network, the design of the Wall is inspired by a vision Gamble described as a giant infinity loop built from one million bricks. The monument uniquely fuses faith with modern technology: each of the million bricks will be digitally linked to a specific, recorded story of an answered prayer.

Visitors will be able to use their smartphones to scan the bricks and immediately access the testimony, creating an immense, interactive record of faith.

After two decades of planning and development, the project is moving forward. Gamble views the monument as a necessary, “unashamedly Christian” statement in a country where the Christian faith is often marginalized.

Despite a general decline in UK church attendance, the project aligns with the thriving sector of independent evangelical, charismatic, and Pentecostal churches. The Eternal Wall of Answered Prayer is scheduled to open its doors to the public in 2028.

The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) on Monday said old N200, N500, N1,000 banknotes remain legal tender till December 31, 2023.

The apex bank’s Acting Director of Corporate Communications, Isa AbdulMumin disclosed this in a statement on Monday. This is coming 10 days after the Supreme Court ruled that old naira notes should co-exist with new ones till the end of the year.

“In compliance with the established tradition of obedience to court orders and sustenance of the Rule of Law Principle that characterized the government of President Muhammadu Buhari, and by extension, the operations of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), as a regulator, Deposit Money Banks operating in Nigeria have been directed to comply with the Supreme Court ruling of March 3, 2023.

“Accordingly, the CBN met with the Bankers’ Committee and has directed that the old N200, N500 and N1000 banknotes remain legal tender alongside the redesigned banknotes till December 31, 2023.

“Consequently, all concerned are directed to conform accordingly,” the statement read.

The highest court of the land had on March 3 ordered that old N200, N500 and N1000 notes remain valid till December 31, 2023.

This was after 16 states of the Federation instituted a suit to challenge the legality or otherwise of the introduction of the policy.

The 16 states led by Kaduna, Kogi and Zamfara had prayed the apex court to void and set aside the policy on the ground that it is inflicting hardships on innocent Nigerians.

The Supreme Court subsequently ruled that President Muhammadu Buhari’s disobedience of its February 8 order is a sign of dictatorship, adding that the President breached the Constitution of the Federation in the way he issued directives for the re-designing of the Naira by the CBN.

After the March 3 judgement by the Supreme Court, the Presidency, CBN and the AGF kept mum, throwing many bank customers and Nigerians into confusion as the ruling of the apex court contradicted the directive of the President on February 16 that old N500 and N1000 notes are banned and old N200 notes remain valid till April 10.

However, the Presidency broke its silence on Monday, saying the President never told the CBN and the AGF not to obey the order of the apex court.

“The CBN has no reason not to comply with court orders on the excuse of waiting for directives from the President,” the Presidency noted.

The Presidency also said the President is an absolute respecter of the rule of law and that the “negative campaign and personalised attacks against the President by the opposition and all manner of commentators is unfair and unjust”.

The apex bank announced on Tuesday amongst other things that the exercise will be open only between February 15 and 17.

The bank emphasised that the deposit is not a cash swap program and that new notes will not be issued in exchange for old notes. Instead the old notes will be accepted by the bank and an account which will be provided by the depositor shall be credited.

“Please note that this is a Cash Deposit Program not a Cash Swap Program. You will not be issued new notes in exchange for old notes, instead your bank account will be credited after your account is validated by law enforcement.

“This process may take up to 4 weeks,” the guideline read, adding that “If the validation of account turns out negative, the Bank will return the deposited notes.”

The CBN also disclosed that third party deposits will not be allowed during the exercise as account information must be provided by their real owners.

“Third party deposits are not allowed. The account information provided must be that of the depositor.

“Members of the public are required to complete an online application form and generate a reference number before coming to the CBN.

“Where a customer did not pre-fill their form, he/she will be given the opportunity to fill the form at the Branch.

“The Cash Deposit Window is open to the public from February 15 – 17, 2023, between 9am to 2pm daily,” the guideline further read.

The bank listed a reference code generated from a form on CBN portal, an active bank account, Bank Verification Number (BVN) and a valid government identity card as requirements to particiapate in the process.

The Rt. Rev’d Timothy Yahaya of Kaduna Anglican Diocese, has described as a national shame for security experts in the country to declare some spaces ungoverned without finding solutions to such situation.

Speaking in his Christmas message, Bishop Yahaya called for State, Local Government and Ward Police, to secure every space and the people in the country.

This was even as he advised that the nation’s military should go back to the barracks, saying they have outlived their usefulness in tackling internal security challenge.

He, however, said that there was hope that things will soon turn around for good in the country, adding that the nation is favoured by God to attain greatness among nations of the world.

“We have ungoverned spaces today, that is what security experts tell us. Is it not a shame that as a nation we have ungoverned spaces? Who is supposed to govern these spaces? So, for me, whenever things happen and there are excuses here and there, I think those excuses are not tenable.

“There is the need to hold somebody responsible. If you are a Commissioner of Police in a particular State and somebody is kidnapped and killed, you must explain beyond reasonable doubt why such life was lost. The Area Commander should be called to order, the DPO should be called to order, the people at the post should be called to order. When nobody is responsible, the space will be ungovernable, but if somebody is held responsible for insecurity, I think we will have more security in our country.

“There is the need for the rejig of the security architecture. We are talking about policing of our nation, and we are just talking about a federal police. I hope there will be a state police, local government police and I propose that there should be a ward police, that every ward should have the police that the people in that ward feel should be able to protect them because police affairs is an affair that should be everywhere.

“I want to say a big thank you to those who have died gallantry trying to defend this country. Those who worked assiduously, tenaciously with every zeal and patrotism to ensure that this nation is great.

“But if you look at some of the things we see, military officers betraying military officers. It is like some people within the system are beneficiaries of insecurity. A house divided against itself cannot stand. When you talk about insecurity, how many police men do we have in the entire nation because the work the military is doing is the work of the police ever since we started this insecurity?

“I want to see the rejig of the Nigerian Police and soldiers should go back to the barracks. These things that are happening, police can handle them. If we have a viable police, if we have a modern police, if we have a number of police that we should have on ground, I tell you they can take care of this situation. But look at what we have done today; we have brought in the military, and it looks like the military is not getting tired of this matter. They want to remain there.

“I want to say this with all sense of humility that what we have done with the military, it will take some time to heal in our country because it is like this insecurity has become like a market and some people seem to be benefitting from it. If you are one of those benefiting from this insecurity, remember that if you spill the blood of the people, your blood will not be spared because whatever a man sows, he reaps,” the Bishop said.

Speaking on his Christmas message, the Clergyman said, “My Christmas message to Nigerians is that this Christmas brings hope. For about 400 years, look at the book of Malachi and the New Testament, there was hopelessness and silence. But I want to assure Nigerians that this Christmas 2022 signals hope for this nation. Hope for better things, hope for turnaround in our lives. We must not give up hope on our nation. There is still hope, we can be the greatest hope on planet earth.

“This nation is endowed with so many things that God has given us. This nation is better than any nation of the world. There is hope in this country, and this hope shall touch every life in this great country. And we will be very happy about it. My Christmas message is that there is hope for this country and we must not give up,” he explained.

On the issue of next year’s elections, Bishop Yahaya said, “I want to say that democracy is about canvassing for votes, I want to plead with the politicians to play the game by the rules. They have signed peace accord but it is as if there is no integrity. If there is integrity, everybody should be given a level playing field. The attacks here and there, it means that we have anti-democratic forces.”

On the issue of the CBN’s cashless policy, he said, “As a leader that knows this country very well, I have lived in Kebbi State, camped in all the interiors, lived in Jalingo, Taraba State, camped in all the interiors, and here am I in Kaduna State. As a man that has traveled through this nation, I want to advise the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) that it cannot equate us with other nations where technology is everywhere. Even in the city of Kaduna where we are, how many people are so enlightened to make cashless policy. Our policy should reflect who we are.

“Cashless policy is a great policy all over the world, but look at the nations that are implementing it hook, line and sinker. Today, even in Kaduna network fails. You go to PoS machine, it fails, you go to ATM to withdraw money, it fails. The network providers we have here need to wake up and be very serious. Therefore, for me, the cashless policy is a great thing but we have to be very careful before we destroy the economy of this country. I am talking about the reality of who we are, the reality of what we are, does it say we should go cashless, because there are people out there, young people out of schools, whenever you talk about a cashless policy, you look at the people you have.

“Today, to get a tank of fuel, you have to spend more than N20,000. In some of the villages where filling stations are operated, there is nothing like PoS. So when you are even talking about cash withdrawal limit, it is like you are living in another continent, not Nigeria. Whoever is making policy in CBN must reflect what Nigeria stands for and must reflect the people. We should look at what Nigerians are, study the demography very well before we enact a policy.”

ECONOMIC MATRIX OF REDESIGN OF NAIRA NOTES :

Good evening great friends and Partners. We bring you update reflections on the recent announcement of the Governor of Central Bank Nigeria Mr. Godwin Emefiele on Wednesday in Abuja. First it’s agreeable that international standard or Global best practice is for central bank to redesign, produce and circulate new local legal tender between five to eight years.
Second it’s true that Central bank is the key administrator of currency management as enshrined in Section 2b of the Central bank of Nigeria Act 2007. Third it’s a fact that most percentage of currency in circulation are outside the vaults Commercial banks which affects financial stability and short supply of calculated currency. Few things that requires clarification and that will help you plan ahead.

First December is too sudden to return all the cash in circulation if 80% of the cash in circulation is not in vaults of any commercial bank except there is underground plan to print more currency than required to cushion the effect of shortage.
Second, the exercise coming up at the heels of general election is something of worry for curious minded person.
Third, redesigning of the currency is not a major challenge to the state of the economy of Nigeria
Fourth, what is the plan to make sure that this over 80% of cash in circulation but not found in any vaults of any commercial bank is returned.
Fifth this exercise will cost or increase our indebtedness and doesn’t add value to the living conditions of Nigerians
Sixth, agreed that the exercise may force Politicians who have hoard the cash to release it for avoidance of lost in value but will that increase purchasing power of Nigerians in any way.
Seventh, how much of our cash are in circulation and that is the only way to know how much to print.
Eight, we hope the redesigning exercise will not tamper with the existing images on the notes.
Ninth, Nigerians should be shown samples of these intended newly designed notes. In fact this is global practice that citizens have the privilege to criticize their notes before it’s finally printed.
Tenth, Nigerians hope that the obtained approval should include Nigerians knowing their fate if they are short paid for the amount they brought to bank.
Eleventh, Nigerians should expect shortfall of the returned cash.
Twelfth, we want to counsel that January may not be possible as when the existing currencies shall seize to be legal tender. No rightful thinking person who has this Nation in mind will want to support that January 31st as the last day when the elections are starting in February 2023. Honestly that is a clear path of cash anarchy and election rigging. For now we will like drop the pen and promise to keep updating you on the implications of new redesign of NAIRA notes. It is not something you should keep quiet or else what happened years ago will repeat itself. Don’t keep quiet and nobody should intimidate you.

The Presidency has explained what Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo, meant when he asked for further devaluation of the nation’s currency when he said that the Naira exchange rate was being kept artificially low.

A statement by his spokesman, Mr. Laolu Akande said: “Our attention has been drawn to statements and reports in the media mis-characterising as a call for devaluation, the view of Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, SAN that the Naira exchange rate was being kept artificially low.

“Prof. Osinbajo is not calling for the devaluation of the Naira. He has at all times argued against a willy-nilly devaluation of the Naira.

“For context, the Vice President’s point was that currently the Naira exchange rate benefits only those who are able to obtain the dollar at N410, some of who simply turn round and sell to the parallel market at N570. It is stopping this huge arbitrage of over N160 per dollar that the Vice President was talking about. Such a massive difference discourages doing proper business, when selling the dollar can bring in 40% profit!

“This was why the Vice President called for measures that would increase the supply of foreign exchange in the market rather than simply managing demand, which opens up irresistible opportunities for arbitrage and corruption.

“It is a well known fact that foreign investors and exporters have been complaining that they could not bring foreign exchange in at N410 and then have to purchase foreign exchange in the parallel market at N570 to meet their various needs on account of unavailability of foreign exchange. Only a more market reflective exchange rate would ameliorate this. With an increase in the supply of dollars the rates will drop and the value of the Naira will improve.

“The real issue confronting the economy on this matter is how to improve the supply of foreign exchange, but this will not happen if we do not allow mechanisms like the Importers and Exporters window to work. If we allow this market mechanism to work as intended, we will find that the Naira will appreciate against the dollar as we restore confidence in the system.”

The hospital’s management exclusively confirmed this on Monday evening that Mr Mailafia died of coronavirus disease “due to comorbidities.”

This revelation was reluctantly made by the hospital’s management, which had insisted that the confidentiality of its patients is sacrosanct.

According to the hospital’s chief medical director, Bissallah Ekele, a professor, Mr Mailafia had been managed at two other hospitals where his COVID-19 status was confirmed positive before being referred to the UATH’s isolation centre “when his case had fast degenerated.”

Allegations

On Sunday, Nigerians received with shock the news of the death of the financial expert and a former presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), in the 2019 general elections.

Mr Mailafia’s vociferous positions on national issues and sharp criticisms of President Muhammadu Buhari-led administration’s alleged poor governance capacity may have informed the concerns and suspicions raised by some Nigerians on the cause of his death.

An ethno-regional group, the Middle Belts Forum, on Sunday, issued a statement accusing the hospital of misconduct in the treatment of the late 64-year-old.

The statement, which was signed by the group’s national publicity secretary, Isuwa Dogo, claimed that the wife of the deceased was requested to make a deposit of N600,000 before proper treatment.

The statement also said when Mr Mailafia complained that he had breathing problems and pleaded with the doctors at the hospital to place him on a ventilator, he was”flatly refused.”

“The doctors in Gwagwalada refused all entreaties by the family members of Mailafia to follow the advice of the foreign consultants, insisting that they have already pronounced him dead and that even when the wife could feel the pulse of her husband, the doctor flatly declared that there was nothing they could do since they had already pronounced him dead,” the statement claimed.

Meanwhile, other public commentators including a former presidential aide, Reno Omokri, in a youtube video, said the death of Mr Mailafia was fishy and thus should be independently investigated.

Similarly, Deji Adeyanju, convener of a rights group- Concerned Nigerians- in a statement on Sunday, also sought inquest into the circumstances leading to the death of the former banker.

UATH reacts

In his reaction, Mr Ekele described all the allegations against the hospital as false, even as our reporter was conducted round the health facility on Monday.

He said: “I can confirm in my honor that all the allegations circulating in the media are false. We never asked for any deposit before commencement of treatment. The doctor on duty that day was on ground and received the patient and he was never at any point refused oxygen. In fact, he was placed on a high-flow-oxygen to enable fast breathing.”

Mr Ekele said the late Mailafia had COVID-19 with other comorbidities and that his situation was already severe before he was referred to the facility.

<img loading="lazy" loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="size-full wp-image-486028 jetpack-lazy-image jetpack-lazy-image--handled" style="box-sizing: border-box; margin: 0px; padding: 0px; border: 0px; font: inherit; vertical-align: middle; max-width: 100%; height: auto;" src="https://i2.wp.com/media.premiumtimesng.com/wp-content/files/2021/09/Visitors-room-at-the-safe-wing-of-the-infectious-Disease-Centre-UATH.jpeg?resize=992%2C744&ssl=1" sizes="auto, (max-width: 992px) 100vw, 992px" srcset="https://i2.wp.com/media.premiumtimesng.com/wp-content/files/2021/09/Visitors-room-at-the-safe-wing-of-the-infectious-Disease-Centre-UATH.jpeg?w=992&ssl=1 992w, https://i2.wp.com/media.premiumtimesng.com/wp-content/files/2021/09/Visitors-room-at-the-safe-wing-of-the-infectious-Disease-Centre-UATH.jpeg?resize=465%2C349&ssl=1 465w, https://i2.wp.com/media.premiumtimesng.com/wp-content/files/2021/09/Visitors-room-at-the-safe-wing-of-the-infectious-Disease-Centre-UATH.jpeg?resize=768%2C576&ssl=1 768w, https://i2.wp.com/media.premiumtimesng.com/wp-content/files/2021/09/Visitors-room-at-the-safe-wing-of-the-infectious-Disease-Centre-UATH.jpeg?resize=750%2C563&ssl=1 750w" alt="Visitors room at the safe wing of the infectious Disease Centre UATH" width="992" height="744" data-attachment-id="486028" data-permalink="https://www.premiumtimesng.com/news/headlines/486024-exclusive-how-ex-cbn-deputy-governor-mailafia-died-of-covid-19-official.html/attachment/visitors-room-at-the-safe-wing-of-the-infectious-disease-centre-uath" data-orig-file="https://i2.wp.com/media.premiumtimesng.com/wp-content/files/2021/09/Visitors-room-at-the-safe-wing-of-the-infectious-Disease-Centre-UATH.jpeg?fit=992%2C744&ssl=1" data-orig-size="992,744" data-comments-opened="1" data-image-meta="{"aperture":"0","credit":"","camera":"","caption":"","created_timestamp":"0","copyright":"","focal_length":"0","iso":"0","shutter_speed":"0","title":"","orientation":"0"}" data-image-title="Visitors room at the safe wing of the infectious Disease Centre UATH" data-image-description="<p>Visitors room at the safe wing of the infectious Disease Centre UATH</p>

“It was unfortunate that his health deteriorated rapidly despite all efforts to save his life”, he explained.

The medical director also questioned the motive of those he said were spreading what he described as fake news. He said the leadership of the Middle Belts Forum never approached the hospital before issuing its statement.

The doctor, who was on duty at the hospital’s infectious disease centre when Mr Mailafia was brought into the facility on Saturday, Usman Galadima, said he was surprised to read the allegations flying around on social media.”

Mr Galadima, a member of the hospital’s COVID-19 management team, noted that the hospital had been duly informed of the referral and was fully prepared to receive Mr Mailafia when he was eventually brought in.

He said: “I was on duty between Saturday, September 18, and Sunday, 19. So when I resumed work in the morning, I was informed that we would be expecting a patient from CBN and I informed my staff -the nurses and a hygienist to prepare the VIP room and the general medical ward.

“An ambulance from EHA clinics arrived in the afternoon. We adorned our PPE and rushed to meet the patient. He was already on the ambulance oxygen and from his oxygen consumption level, I noticed he was in a severe condition. We placed him on a highflow oxygen with no delay and wheeled him into the VIP section in a wheelchair.”

Mr Galadima said based on the medical report he received and subsequent history from the patient and his wife, Mailafia, had been ill for about a week, and that he was first taken to the CBN health facility before he was transferred to EHA clinics from where he was eventually referred to the UATH infectious disease centre.

The doctor added: “We are a tertiary referral centre for severe and moderate cases of such conditions. I discussed with the patient and the wife the kind of illness he has, the cause and treatment procedure before we started treatment.

“The wife informed us that the CBN is fully behind the patients’ management and that we should give him the best and that is exactly what we did.

“The patient got a bit uncomfortable later in the night so we attached an official to stay with him and monitor his vital signs because of the severity of his condition. We used about four cylinders of oxygen on him throughout the night.

“In the early hours of the following day, we noticed he was deteriorating in spite of all the treatment procedures. He could no longer sustain breathing and we had to start resuscitation. Sadly, we couldn’t save him.

He said he, alongside his colleagues, called the family and informed them of the development. “The wife thanked us for the effort and prayed for us and then asked for a moment with him alone.”

On foreign doctor’s intervention

Mr Galadima said as soon as the wife went to see the body, he also left for the office to document certain things while other staffers were on ground for monitoring.

“About an hour later, a phone was brought for me to speak with the eldest son of the deceased who introduced himself as a lawyer and said he had with him a Belgian medical consultant. I narrated to them the sequence of events before the patient was pronounced dead.

“The Belgian consultant insisted that I should do chest compression on the deceased but I told them I am a senior doctor who have been practicing for over 20 years and I already certified the patient dead more than an hour ago but she kept insisting on the chest compression which I find quite unprofessional.

“I informed them that they should come down to the hospital if they want to make further investigations. The wife of the late Mailafia later called my attention to a sign showing in the monitor asking if it meant the man was still alive, I told her we already stopped resuscitation after the man died and that I am deeply sorry for the loss.

“I now asked the nurse to go tidy up the corpse and when she went she saw that they were already doing the chest compressions. The wife later came and met me in the office and asked what is the next step now that the man is dead. I called the public health department and they put the body in the body bag. An ambulance took him to the mortuary for preparation for burial based on the protocol for such deaths.”

On N600,00 deposit claim

Mr Galadima also reaffirmed that the facility never asked for a deposit before treatment, saying such was not a prerequisite for admission at the centre.

“People that come here are mostly in dire situations. So we start treatment first. In his case, we started treatment even before a file was opened,” he said.

Decision on ventilator

On the allegation that the patient was refused to be placed on a ventilator, Mr Galadima said due to the condition of the deceased when he was brought in, the risk of his health escalating if he was put on a ventilator outweighed the benefit. He said that was why he was managed in a highflow oxygen.

EHA Clinics speaks

On its part, the management of EHA Clinics, Abuja branch, where Mr Mailafia was transferred to UATH, said it did its best within its limit before making a case for the referral.

In an email as a response to PREMIUM TIMES’ inquiry on the issue, the hospital said the deceased was received at the facility on Friday, 17 September , following a referral by the CBN clinic “after a prior discussion with our managing consultant.”

The email, which was signed by the manager in charge of practice and quality assurance unit, Ifunanya Ilodibe, however, cautioned that the medical condition of any of its clients would not be disclosed to a third party except with the permission of the client or their next of kin.

The response reads in part: “First and foremost, EHA Clinics would like to send its heartfelt condolences to the family of Dr. Obadiah Mailafia.

“Dr. Mailafia in question was referred to us on Friday, September 17, 2021, by the CBN clinic after a prior discussion with our managing consultant. As per our centre protocols, the patient was immediately evaluated by the medical team, upon arrival to determine suitability for management at our centre. The patient was initially admitted and managed by our medical team using standard protocols for the management of his medical condition.

“After close monitoring and careful review of this patient’s medical status by the managing consultant, it was determined that the patient would be better managed at a medical facility with an Intensive Care Unit (ICU).”

According to the manager, EHA clinics is a level 2 centre that does not offer intensive care support, and so it usually refers patients requiring those services to tertiary facilities.

“We appropriately communicated this decision to the medical team at the CBN clinic who also agreed with the decision. The family was counselled on the need for transfer and arrangements were made with the receiving facility and the patient was transferred promptly on Saturday, September 18, 2021.

“Please note that it is against medical ethics to discuss the details of a client’s diagnosis without the express permission of the client or their next of kin. EHA Clinics is a comprehensive health care facility that prioritizes the health, safety, and well-being of each of our clients.”

Contracting COVID-19

Another health official, who was privy to the condition of the deceased late politician but who does not want to be quoted, explained how Mr Mailafia contracted COVID-19.

He said the deceased was confirmed positive of the virus at the EHA, adding that late testing and underlying health conditions had rapidly worsened his condition.

The source said: “The patient took ill on September 12, after he came back from Akure. At first, he was treated at home for malaria before he was later taken to the CBN health facility. He was later referred to EHA clinics where he tested positive.

“The problem is that the condition was not detected earlier. We always advise early testing once the symptoms are similar to COVID-19 because if the disease is not detected earlier and the patient has other underlying conditions, the situation becomes severe and there could be little or nothing the doctors can do except a lung transplant.

“If someone contracts COVID-19 and has underlying health conditions, it weakens the body immunity faster.”

The UATH CMD also harped on early testing for the disease, saying: “The earlier it is diagnosed, the higher the chances of the patient surviving.”

“Another problem is that some are diagnosed but they still live in denial. When you manage this condition with an underlying condition it becomes severe that is why early testing and treatment is highly recommended,” he said.

“One challenge we face is that some patients will go to four different hospitals before they are brought to the infectious disease centre and by that time the condition would have already become severe. And we don’t reject patients even if it’s just an hour that is left for the patient; that is why we are here.”

Meanwhile, efforts to speak with the wife of the deceased, Mrs Mailafia, on the matter were unsuccessful as she neither picked calls to her mobile lines nor responded to messages sent.

COVID-19 in Nigeria

Nigeria is currently battling the third wave of the coronavirus pandemic which has resulted in a spike in infections and deaths in recent weeks.

More than 201,000 infections have been reported from the disease with a total of 2,661 fatalities as of Monday, September 20.
