Text: 1 Thessalonians 3:7-13

3:7  therefore, brethren, in all our affliction and distress we were comforted concerning you by your faith.

3:8 For now we live, if you stand fast in the Lord.

3:9  For what thanks can we render to God for you, for all the joy with which we rejoice for your sake before our God, 

3:10 night and day praying exceedingly that we may see your face and perfect what is lacking in your faith?

3:11 Now may our God and Father Himself, and our Lord Jesus Christ, direct our way to you

3:12 And may the Lord make you increase and abound in love to one another and to all, just as we do to you,

3:13  so that He may establish your hearts blameless in holiness before our God and Father at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ with all His saints.

STUDY:

Whenever a plantain tree bears fruit in fullness, it requires a practical support to enable it carry the fruit to maturity for use by its owners. This was exactly what Paul did for the brethren in Thessalonica. He sent Timothy to the young Church that was growing very fast, so as to sustain their faith in Jesus Christ and make them remain holy before God Almighty.
Timothy did exactly what Paul would have done if Paul had been present. He motivated them and cheered them on to grow (v. 7).

Then, he reported to Paul how their faith had flourished (vv. 6-8). He led the way for praying for what they may still be lacking (vv. 9-10). Beloved, whenever you are sent out on an assignment to represent your leader, how do you present issues? Do you blackmail him/her or present the issues as your leader would do? As a leader, how do you respond to the people growing or doing well under your leadership? Do you oppress or support them to do better? Remember Galatians 6:2.

Prayer: 

Almighty God, help me to be a good ambassador of your kingdom all the days of my life in Jesus Christ Name, Amen.

The governor gave the assurance on Friday during the swearing-in ceremony for the 2026 Batch B, Stream II corps members held in Damare, Girei Local Government Area.

Represented by his Chief of Staff, Dr. Edgar Amos, Fintiri said construction of the permanent orientation camp had reached an advanced stage and expressed confidence that future batches would begin their orientation at the new facility.

He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to the welfare of corps members, assuring them that the state would continue paying the ₦30,000 monthly allowance to those serving in Adamawa.

According to the governor, the state government remains committed to supporting the NYSC scheme in recognition of corps members’ contributions to sectors such as education, healthcare and agriculture.

Fintiri urged the corps members to obey the laws of the land, respect the customs and traditions of their host communities, and promote peaceful coexistence throughout their service year.

He also encouraged them to undertake meaningful community development projects that would positively impact their host communities.

Speaking at the event, the Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development and Chairman of the Adamawa NYSC Governing Board, Wali Yakubu, congratulated the corps members on their successful mobilisation.

He urged them to participate actively in all camp activities, embrace Nigeria’s cultural diversity and foster unity by building relationships across ethnic and religious lines.

Yakubu also assured them of the state government’s commitment to providing a safe and conducive environment during their service year.

Earlier, the Adamawa State NYSC Coordinator, Mrs. Caroline Chinedu, disclosed that 1,520 corps members registered for the 2026 Batch B, Stream II orientation exercise.

According to her, the figure comprises 779 males and 741 females, who have demonstrated discipline and enthusiasm since the commencement of the orientation programme.

She, however, appealed to the state government to urgently address the electricity challenge at the temporary orientation camp, noting that reliance on generators had affected water supply, sanitation and other essential services.

The oath of allegiance was administered by Justice Abbas Adamu, who represented the Chief Judge of Adamawa State, Justice Hafsat Abdulrahman.

The ceremony formally marked the commencement of the 2026 Batch B, Stream II orientation course in Adamawa State.

The resolution was contained in a communiqué issued after the association’s Emergency National Executive Council (E-NEC) meeting in Uyo on Friday.

The communiqué, signed by NAMDA President, Dr. Nosa Lancy Orhue, and Acting Secretary-General, Prof. Aniekan Peter, said the extension would provide the government with another opportunity to address the unresolved issues.

According to the association, failure to reach a satisfactory resolution by the deadline would trigger a three-day warning strike.

“A three-week timeline extension was adopted for a possible further consideration. E-NEC further resolved that the extension period should be utilised by government to resolve all outstanding issues.

“Failure to achieve meaningful resolution at the expiration of the period ending on August 31, 2026, shall result in the declaration of a three-day warning strike to be announced by the National Officers Committee (NOC),” the communiqué stated.

NAMDA also directed all its branches nationwide to organise at least two congresses and sensitisation programmes within the extension period to mobilise members ahead of the proposed industrial action.

The branches were instructed to submit reports and evidence of their mobilisation efforts to the association’s National Executive Council through the secretariat, indicating their level of preparedness for the strike.

The association expressed disappointment over what it described as the Federal Government’s reluctance to conclude negotiations on its demands.

It, however, commended the Department of State Services (DSS) and other stakeholders for their ongoing efforts to facilitate dialogue, while also appreciating members for their patience and commitment to maintaining stability in Nigeria’s university system.

NAMDA further lamented what it described as the government’s failure to prioritise medical education and training despite the shortage of medical and dental professionals and the increasing migration of healthcare workers abroad.

The association reaffirmed its commitment to pursuing the full implementation of all approved benefits for medical and dental lecturers and urged members to comply with all resolutions reached at the meeting.

This was disclosed in statement issued on Friday by his Senior Special Assistant on Public Communication, Phrank Shaibu, Atiku said the transfer was made by an unknown individual with the narration, “Contribution Electioneering Campaign.”

According to the statement, neither the former vice president nor his campaign team solicited, authorised or had prior knowledge of the payment.

The statement noted that the transaction was particularly troubling because the account involved is a private one whose details are not publicly available.

It questioned how unknown individuals obtained the confidential banking information, describing the development as a matter of serious concern.

Atiku warned that if the banking details of a former vice president and presidential candidate could be accessed without authorisation, the financial privacy of ordinary Nigerians could also be at risk.

He further alleged that the information may have been obtained through individuals with privileged access, warning that such a breach, if confirmed, would amount to a serious abuse of power.

According to him, exposing confidential banking information could place account holders at risk from kidnappers, terrorists, bandits, fraudsters and other criminal elements.

The former vice president said security agencies had been notified of the incident, describing it as one of several suspicious developments occurring ahead of the 2027 general elections.

He also urged Nigerians not to be distracted by what he characterised as attempts to tarnish his reputation as political activities gather momentum.

Despite the incident, Atiku reaffirmed his commitment to offering what he described as credible leadership and practical solutions to Nigeria’s challenges.

NFF President Lise Klaveness made the announcement on Friday, stating that the federation had resolved to seek Infantino’s resignation following a meeting of its governing bodies.

“He does not have the institutional trust required to lead FIFA in a stable manner in the current climate. There is no turning back for Gianni Infantino,” Klaveness told reporters.

She added that the Norwegian federation would formally ask the FIFA president to step down.

The call comes months before FIFA’s presidential election, where Infantino is seeking a fourth and final term in office.

The Italian-Swiss lawyer, who has led FIFA since 2016, is currently the only declared candidate for the election scheduled for March next year. To secure another term, he must obtain a majority of votes from FIFA’s 211 member associations.

Candidates interested in contesting the election have until November 18 to declare their intention.

Infantino has faced growing criticism in recent weeks following the collapse of his proposal to open FIFA competitions, including the World Cup, to private investors.

The failed initiative has intensified scrutiny of his leadership and prompted fresh calls for change within world football’s governing body.

Odedeji gave the charge during the second graduation ceremony of the vocational centre held at the Caroline Adefiola Adebiyi Conference Centre, Ipaja, Lagos, where 78 students completed various vocational training programmes.

According to a statement on Friday made available to PUNCH Online , the bishop described vocational education as a rewarding journey that demands patience, discipline and dedication, stressing that lasting success is built on integrity, punctuality, respect for others and teamwork.

He noted that while certificates are important, they should not be regarded as the ultimate measure of achievement.

“A certificate can be placed in a folder, but the real value of functional training is reflected in the trainee’s capacity, confidence, consistency, character and competence,” he said.

Odedeji added that vocational and professional skills align with God’s purpose for humanity, noting that the Church has a responsibility to make both spiritual and positive societal impacts.

He encouraged the graduands to continue developing themselves through mentorship, continuous learning and skills improvement to remain competitive in an evolving world.

“Always strive for quality because it protects your reputation, builds trust and attracts better opportunities. Guard your integrity; do not compromise. Integrity is not a luxury but the foundation of lasting success. God honours character,” he said.

The graduates, who received free training from the Diocese of Lagos West, completed a nine-month programme in Catering, Tailoring, ICT and Computer Studies, Hairdressing, Photography and Barbing. The participants included retired school principals, unemployed youths, professionals and other members of society.

Also speaking, the wife of the bishop and founder of the vocational centre, Dr. Lydia Odedeji, urged the graduates to pursue financial independence while placing God at the centre of their lives and careers.

She reminded them that integrity should remain their guiding principle as they begin the next phase of their journey.

Some of the graduates expressed appreciation to the Diocese, describing the programme as life-changing and saying it had equipped them with practical skills to become self-reliant.

The event featured the administration of the graduation oath, presentation of certificates and the conferment of appreciation awards on Bishop James Odedeji and Dr. Lydia Odedeji by the graduating students. It was attended by church administrators, supporters of the vocational centre, representatives of women’s organisations, parents and other guests.

The Diocese of Abuja, Church of Nigeria (Anglican Communion), on Thursday, 6 August 2026, held the funeral service for the late Rev’d Canon John Silas Chawai at the Basilica of Grace, Gudu, Abuja.

The solemn service, which was presided over by the Primate of All Nigeria and the Bishop of Abuja, The Most Rev’d Henry Chukwudum Ndukuba had in attendance Clergy, family members, friends, and faithful from across the Church gathered to celebrate the life and ministry of a devoted servant of God who joined the saint triumphant.

In his sermon which was delivered by the Bishop of Gwagwalada, The Rt. Rev’d Moses Tabwaye, reflecting on the Christian hope of eternal life, he described death as an exit route to heaven and encouraged those present to find comfort in Christ’s promise of resurrection.

Paying tribute to the late Canon, Bishop Tabwaye described him as a humble, honourable, and faithful minister who had “fought the good fight” and finished his earthly course with distinction. He noted that Canon Chawai did not die in defeat but “graduated to glory,” having remained steadfast in proclaiming the Gospel and resisting compromise. He further remarked that, in an era when many have watered down the message of the Gospel, the late Canon remained unwavering in preaching the truth and labouring faithfully for the salvation of souls.

Bishop Tabwaye added that Canon Chawai kept the faith in liturgy, character, and legacy, noting that he did not preach the Gospel without the cross.

Rev’d Canon John Silas Chawai passed into glory on Friday, 31 July 2026, at the age of 62.

Before answering God’s call into full-time ministry, he served meritoriously in the Nigerian Police Force for more than a decade. His journey of Christian service began as a chorister at Christ Church, Fagge, in the Diocese of Kano during the 1980s. He later served as Catechist at All Saints’ Anglican Church, Kwana Dangora, and St. David’s Anglican Church, Danzamawa, before proceeding to St. Francis Theological Seminary, Wusasa, for ministerial formation.

His exemplary character, discipline, and leadership earned him election as President of the Student Body while at the seminary. Following his graduation, he was posted to the Diocese of Abuja in 2004, where he began his ordained ministry at St. Luke’s Anglican Church, Kado. Over the years, he served faithfully in several congregations across the Diocese, was preferred Canon in 2018, and from 2022 until his passing ministered at the Basilica of Grace Hausa Church.

Earlier, in a condolence message, Archbishop Henry Chukwudum Ndukuba extended heartfelt sympathies to the Chawai family, describing the late Canon’s godly example as “a light and an inspiration to all who knew him.”

The Church gives thanks to God for the life, witness, and faithful ministry of Rev’d Canon John Silas Chawai, whose legacy of integrity, humility, and unwavering commitment to the Gospel will continue to inspire generations of faithful Christians.

Text: 1 Thessalonians 3:1-6

3:1 Therefore, when we could no longer endure it, we thought it good to be left in Athens alone,

3:2 and sent Timothy, our brother and minister of God, and our fellow laborer in the gospel of Christ, to establish you and encourage you concerning your faith, 

3:3  that no one should be shaken by these afflictions; for you yourselves know that we are appointed to this.

3:4    For, in fact, we told you before when we were with you that we would suffer tribulation, just as it happened, and you know.

3:5  For this reason, when I could no longer endure it, I sent to know your faith, lest by some means the tempter had tempted you, and our labor might be in vain.

3:6 But now that Timothy has come to us from you, and brought us good news of your faith and love, and that you always have good remembrance of us, greatly desiring to see us, as we also to see you—

STUDY:

The words of Jesus Christ in John 16:33 “… in this world ye shall have tribulation; but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world” is a practical situation of the experience of Apostle Paul for his ministry towards the young church at Thessalonica (Acts 17:5-9). Though, they were pre-warned of the coming persecution, still the faith of the young brethren was unknown. So, Paul considered it wise to send Timothy to the Church to stimulate their zeal in Christ again. This shows leadership accountability (v. 1).

Timothy provided strength and encouragement to the young Church (v. 2). This effort worked to rescue those who might have fallen away (v. 3). They fought to ensure that their work had not been in vain (vv. 4-5). Timothy brought back a positive report of the Church to Paul and the brethren, of their growth and how they longed to see them (v. 6). How do you respond to challenges which you think would come in the lives of young brethren in our churches and society? (Gal. 6:2). It is the duty and responsibilities of Christian leaders to encourage and strengthen young believers by guiding and directing them on the right path and preventing them from falling. It is important that we review our commitment and service to the Lord along this line, daily.

In a personally signed statement issued on Thursday, the President said he was deeply concerned by the timing of the anti-graft agency’s action, stressing that although he respects the EFCC’s independence, the development could create the impression of political interference ahead of the state’s governorship election.

Tinubu clarified that his concern was not with the commission’s constitutional mandate but with the timing of the decision.

According to him, every action taken by a federal institution is often attributed to the President, regardless of whether he had prior knowledge of it.

“I have directed the EFCC to immediately proceed to the court to vacate the order and discontinue whatever action it has instituted against the Osun State Government in this regard,” he said.

The President reiterated that since assuming office in May 2023, he has deliberately refrained from interfering in the operations of anti-corruption agencies, insisting that institutions such as the EFCC must be allowed to carry out their responsibilities independently and professionally.

He, however, said the proximity of the Osun governorship election made it necessary to intervene.

“Osun State is only a few days away from its gubernatorial election. Therefore, nothing ought to be done to give an impression that the EFCC or any other federal agency is being used to interfere with the election,” Tinubu stated.

The controversy followed allegations by Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke that the EFCC froze one of the state’s bank accounts, which is used to pay workers’ salaries, by placing it on a Post No Debit restriction.

The governor also claimed the commission was preparing to freeze the accounts of some senior officials of his administration.

In response, the EFCC defended its action, saying it detected suspicious movements of funds from the account and acted to prevent the alleged diversion of public resources.

According to the commission, investigations revealed large transfers from the account to several corporate entities, prompting the decision to obtain a court order freezing the account.

The EFCC maintained that its action was part of its statutory responsibility to safeguard public funds and insisted that the approaching governorship election should not prevent it from carrying out its legal duties.

The development has generated widespread reactions, with opposition figures accusing the Federal Government of using the anti-corruption agency to influence the political process, an allegation the EFCC has denied.

Text: Luke 9:28-36

9:28   Now it came to pass, about eight days after these sayings, that He took Peter, John, and James and went up on the mountain to pray. 

9:29  As He prayed, the appearance of His face was altered, and His robe became white and glistening. 

9:30 And behold, two men talked with Him, who were Moses and Elijah

9:31   who appeared in glory and spoke of His ^[a]decease which He was about to accomplish at Jerusalem.

9:32 But Peter and those with him were heavy with sleep; and when they were fully awake, they saw His glory and the two men who stood with Him.

9:33 Then it happened, as they were parting from Him, that Peter said to Jesus, “Master, it is good for us to be here; and let us make three ^[b]tabernacles: one for You, one for Moses, and one for Elijah”—not knowing what he said.

9:34 While he was saying this, a cloud came and overshadowed them; and they were fearful as they entered the cloud. 

9:35 And a voice came out of the cloud, saying, “This is ^[c]My beloved Son. Hear Him!”

9:36 When the voice had ceased, Jesus was found alone. But they kept quiet, and told no one in those days any of the things they had seen.

STUDY:

Today is marked as the Transfiguration of Christ in the Church Calendar. Jesus took three of His disciples – Peter, James and John – to the mountain to pray. While praying, His countenance changed and He was transfigured (transformed into glory). He was then joined by Moses (representing the Law) and Elijah (representing the Prophets), who interacted with Him. The significance is that these men surrendered authority to Jesus who came to fulfil the Law and the Prophets. Because the disciples were sleeping, they could not record what Jesus discussed with Moses and Elijah; that is the danger of sleeping at the wrong time. Any person moving from a hot to a very cool environment will probably want to remain there except the person is suffering from fever. Of course, Peter suggested to Jesus that they build three tabernacles for the three personalities as to remain permanently there.

It was while Jesus Christ prayed at the mountain that the transformation came and was witnessed by those He took along (v. 32). So the place of change is at the altar of prayer. This reveals that if we set aside time to pray as Jesus did in verse 28, we too will experience the glory of the Lord. (1 Thess. 5:17). Beloved, what therefore, can limit us from experiencing this glory? See 1 John 2:15-17 and Proverbs 4:23. We also see that as we enter into His glory, we shall hear Him clearly and be able to understand His ways (v. 35). May this be our portion, in Jesus’ Name, Amen.

Prayer: 

Father, grant me the grace to always experience your glory in Jesus’ Name, Amen.
