Text: Matthew 6:24-34

6:24 “No one can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or else he will be loyal to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and mammon.

6:25“Therefore I say to you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink; nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food and the body more than clothing?

6:26 Look at the birds of the air, for they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they?

6:27Which of you by worrying can add one [b]cubit to his [c]stature?

6:28<sup> </sup>“So why do you worry about clothing? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow: they neither toil nor spin;

6:29 and yet I say to you that even Solomon in all his glory was not [d]arrayed like one of these.

6:30 Now if God so clothes the grass of the field, which today is, and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, will He not much more clothe you, O you of little faith?

6:31 “Therefore do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’

6:32 For after all these things the Gentiles seek. For your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things.

6:33 But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.

6:34 Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about its own things. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble.

STUDY:

In our text today, the Lord Jesus Christ exhorts His disciples not to worry about their basic needs such as food and clothing. He argues that if God provides for the birds of the air and clothes the grass of the field, He will certainly meet the needs of His children who live according to His purpose. Jesus’ question, “Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothing?” (v. 25), highlights that there is more to life than pursuing ordinary necessities. This does not imply that Christians should be idle or lazy (1 Tim. 5:8; 2 Thess. 3:10; Rom. 12:11).

Rather, it emphasises that instead of being consumed by worldly concerns, Christians should prioritise seeking God’s kingdom and righteousness, by living according to God’s Word. Beloved, as Christians, we are called to a higher purpose than merely pursuing food and shelter. Our primary concern should be how to honour God in our daily lives, not what we will eat or wear. God is aware of our basic needs and desires to sustain us. His purpose, however, is not for us to fight for these needs at the expense of our Christian integrity. Instead, He has designed us to seek first the things that pertain to His kingdom, living by every word that proceeds from His mouth. Worry can lead to distress, hopelessness, and a loss of faith in God’s ability to provide. When we prioritise God’s kingdom, we can trust that He will provide our needs.

Six persons have been confirmed dead in a multiple-vehicle accident involving tankers, articulated trucks and cars at the Ibadan toll gate axis of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.

The Oyo State Fire Service confirmed the incident, which occurred on Friday night and triggered a fire outbreak that left motorists stranded for several hours as traffic built up along the busy route on Saturday.

In a statement, the Chairman of the Oyo State Fire Service, Moroof Akinwande, said eight other victims were rescued from the wreckage and handed over to the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) for urgent medical attention.

He explained that the agency received a distress call at about 9:29pm from a police officer, Sola Rotimi, prompting the immediate deployment of firefighters to the scene.

According to him, responders met about six vehicles involved in the crash, including gas tankers, articulated trucks and two cars, with parts of the scene already engulfed in flames.

“The crew quickly swung into action, and the fire was restricted from spreading to other vehicles and nearby properties,” Akinwande said.

He added that preliminary findings suggest brake failure may have caused the crash.

Akinwande urged motorists to exercise caution on highways and ensure their vehicles are equipped with functional fire extinguishers to help manage emergencies before they escalate.

Eyewitness videos circulating on social media showed long queues of stranded vehicles as burnt tankers blocked sections of the expressway, with charred remains scattered across the road.

Commuters expressed frustration over the prolonged gridlock, which lasted for hours.

Popular comedian Bayegun Oluwatoyin, known as Woli Arole, was also caught in the traffic and shared a video on Facebook describing the situation as severe.

He said motorists had been trapped for three to four hours and advised people heading toward Ibadan to delay their trips, noting that the congestion was near the Guru Maharaj Ji area.

Authorities are yet to confirm when normal traffic flow will be fully restored.

The Diocese of Ogbaru of the Anglican Communion has expressed concern over the increasing rate of political defections in Nigeria, warning that the trend poses a serious threat to the country’s democratic system.

The position was contained in a communiqué issued at the end of the second session of the Diocese’s Seventh Synod held at Immanuel Anglican Church, Umunankwo, in Ogbaru Local Government Area of Anambra State.

The communiqué was signed by the President of the Synod and Bishop of the Diocese, Most Rev. Prosper Amah, and the Clerical Synod Secretary, Ven. Edozie Onwunyi.

According to the church, the growing culture of politicians switching allegiance from one political party to another weakens democratic institutions, undermines good governance and reduces public confidence in the political process.

The synod called on political leaders and relevant stakeholders to support electoral reforms, strengthen anti-defection laws and promote ideology-driven politics to safeguard Nigeria’s democracy.

It also urged political parties to uphold internal democracy and encouraged increased voter education and moral reorientation among political leaders to restore trust in governance.

Beyond politics, the synod appealed to governments at all levels to intensify efforts towards combating malaria, describing the disease as a major public health concern that requires sustained intervention.

The church further raised concerns about the implementation of constituency projects, noting that many projects intended to bring development closer to the people are often abandoned, poorly executed or affected by corruption and lack of transparency.

It therefore encouraged citizens to actively monitor projects in their communities, engage elected representatives and demand accountability in the execution of constituency projects.

The synod commended the leadership of the diocese for its contributions to evangelism, education, healthcare delivery and human capital development across communities.

It also praised Anambra State Governor, Chukwuma Soludo, for efforts aimed at improving security and protecting lives and property in the state.

However, the church urged the state government to sustain youth empowerment and job creation initiatives while also calling for urgent attention to the rehabilitation of the Atani-Ogwuikpele Road.

6:11 See with what large letters I have written to you with my own hand!

6:12 As many as desire to make a good showing in the flesh, these would compel you to be circumcised, only that they may not suffer persecution for the cross of Christ.

6:13 For not even those who are circumcised keep the law, but they desire to have you circumcised that they may boast in your flesh.

6:14 But God forbid that I should boast except in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, by [a]whom the world has been crucified to me, and I to the world.

STUDY:

Today, we want to stress the importance of the cross of the Lord Jesus Christ as the only divine strategy for achieving victory over the flesh. In our text, Paul writes, “But God forbid that I should boast except in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom the world has been crucified to me, and I to the world” (v.14). Paul understood that a life controlled by the flesh does not only show in moral decay but also in self-righteousness or boastful moral devotion (vv. 5:19-21). Paul noted that becoming a new creation is made possible when one is in Christ (2 Cor. 5:17). The death of Jesus Christ means that the flesh and his deeds have been crucified. Through Jesus’ resurrection, a new life under the influence of the Holy Spirit, was made available. Therefore, anyone who embraces the cross of Christ has been set free to serve the living God.

Child of God, you do not need to struggle under the power of sin; your freedom is guaranteed in Christ. The influence of the flesh can only be overcome by your faith in Jesus Christ and the victory He has secured for you; it is a product of His finished work on the cross. No one can overcome the flesh by observing rules and regulations but through the grace that flows from the cross of Christ. Embracing the cross of Christ is the only way to gain victory over the sinful nature. As you determine to live for Christ, never depend on your strength.

STUDY:

God is never a debtor to anyone. He has ordained life in such a way that it works on sowing and reaping. As long as the earth remains, the season of sowing and reaping will never cease (Gen. 8:22). More importantly, the faithfulness of God is demonstrated in the reality of sowing and reaping in the same kind and quality. This is exactly what Jesus means when He says “a good tree cannot bear bad fruit nor can a bad tree bear good fruit” (Matt. 7:18). Again, in Matthew 12:33, He says, “… a tree is known by its fruits.” In all of these, we are made to see that reaping or harvesting does not take a different turn in quality; it is a product of the kind of seed planted. This is what Paul emphasised in our passage today: Do not be deceived, whatsoever a man sows that shall he also reap. Sowing to the flesh brings corruption while sowing to the Spirit brings eternal life (Gal. 6:7&8).
Beloved, let us always note that a man will always reap whatever he sows.

As Christians, the focus of our lives must not be to promote the flesh but to grow daily in the Spirit by deliberate investment. Our labours will definitely not be in vain. A man who gives himself to satisfying the deed desires of the flesh will automatically reap corruption and eternal death. In addition, whatever we sow in terms of our attitude to our homes, education, business or our relationship with others, will determine our harvest. Therefore, let us be careful what we sow because we shall definitely reap in no distant time.

The Federal Government has officially launched Nigeria’s Digital Switch Over (DSO) programme, a major initiative aimed at migrating the country from analogue to digital terrestrial television broadcasting.

The government said the programme is expected to reach about 40 million homes nationwide, generate more than N600 billion in economic opportunities, create jobs and improve access to quality broadcasting services.

The launch ceremony, held in Abuja on Wednesday, marks a significant step in Nigeria’s long-delayed transition to digital broadcasting, a project that has remained in the pipeline for several years.

Speaking at the event, the Minister of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, Bosun Tijani, described the rollout as a key milestone in Nigeria’s digital transformation efforts and a contributor to the administration’s goal of building a $1 trillion economy.

According to him, the initiative goes beyond broadcasting and will improve access to information, education and cultural content while ensuring that citizens in remote communities are not left behind.

“Today, Nigeria joins the ranks of nations that have embraced modern digital broadcasting infrastructure to serve their people,” Tijani said.

The minister explained that the digital switchover forms part of a broader national strategy to strengthen digital infrastructure across the country.

He disclosed that the Federal Government is currently implementing a 90,000-kilometre fibre-optic network project and has also secured two new satellites to enhance communications services nationwide.

Tijani noted that the fibre network would connect communities, businesses, institutions and public services while extending digital connectivity to border areas and neighbouring countries.

He added that the investments would position Nigeria to export digital and broadcasting services across the West African region.

Also speaking, the Director-General of the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC), Charles Ebuebu, described the initiative as a major step towards building a new communications architecture for the country.

According to him, the project will create opportunities for content creators, broadcasters, manufacturers and investors while promoting media diversity and improving spectrum efficiency.

“The initiative represents our collective ambition to expand access to information, stimulate investment, empower local manufacturers and strengthen Nigeria’s broadcasting ecosystem,” he said.

The Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of NigComSat Limited said the Digital Switch Over programme is more than a broadcasting upgrade, describing it as a strategic investment in Nigeria’s digital future.

She noted that apart from the projected N600 billion economic opportunities, the programme would deliver better picture quality, improved sound, greater content diversity and enhanced viewing experiences for millions of Nigerians.

The initiative is also expected to provide new opportunities for broadcasters, content creators, technology providers and investors while helping bridge connectivity gaps in underserved communities.

Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, described the launch as the culmination of years of planning and collaboration among government agencies and industry stakeholders.

According to him, the project aligns with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which prioritises digital transformation, innovation and infrastructure development.

He said a fully implemented digital broadcasting ecosystem would create jobs, boost local manufacturing, strengthen content production and open up new revenue streams for broadcasters and content creators.

Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Kalu, also described the digital transition as a transformative development comparable to the impact of electricity, railways and the internet.

He stressed that digital infrastructure has become critical to national development and economic competitiveness, adding that the National Assembly would continue to support policies that promote digital inclusion and technological advancement.

The Digital Switch Over programme is expected to accelerate Nigeria’s migration to digital broadcasting, improve spectrum utilisation and expand access to digital television services across the country while supporting broader economic growth and development goals.

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has announced a new policy prohibiting children under the age of 15 from using social media platforms, joining several countries that have introduced measures aimed at protecting young users online.

The decision was approved through a cabinet resolution, which requires social media companies to identify and disable accounts operated by users below the age threshold or face regulatory sanctions.

According to the UAE’s official news agency, WAM, the new regulation sets 15 years as the minimum age for social media use across the country.

“The resolution sets the minimum age for social media use at 15 years,” WAM reported.

Under the new rules, children below the age of 15 will not be allowed to create, operate or use personal social media accounts.

The restrictions also prevent underage users from accessing key interactive features on social media platforms, including posting content, commenting, sharing information, joining public groups and participating in large online communities.

Authorities have given social media companies a 12-month transition period to comply with the new requirements.

The move places the UAE among a growing number of countries tightening regulations around children’s online activities. Australia introduced a similar restriction for users under 16 in December, while Britain recently announced comparable measures.

The UAE government said relevant media and telecommunications regulators have been empowered to enforce compliance and take action against platforms that fail to implement the rules.

Possible sanctions include official warnings, administrative penalties, and partial or complete blocking of non-compliant platforms.

The authorities said the policy is intended to strengthen online safety for children and ensure greater accountability among social media companies operating within the country.

Text: Galatians 5:13-26

5:13 For you, brethren, have been called to liberty; only do not use liberty as an opportunity for the flesh, but through love serve one another.

5:14 For all the law is fulfilled in one word, even in this: “You shall love your neighbor as yourself.”

5:15 But if you bite and devour one another, beware lest you be consumed by one another!

5:16 I say then: Walk in the Spirit, and you shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh.

5:17 For the flesh lusts against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh; and these are contrary to one another, so that you do not do the things that you wish.

5:18 But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the law.

5:19 Now the works of the flesh are evident, which are: adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lewdness,

5:20 idolatry, sorcery, hatred, contentions, jealousies, outbursts of wrath, selfish ambitions, dissensions, heresies,

5:21 envy, murders, drunkenness, revelries, and the like; of which I tell you beforehand, just as I also told you in time past, that those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God.

5:22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness,

5:23 gentleness, self-control. Against such there is no law

5:24 And those who are Christ’s have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires.

5:25 If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit.

5:26 Let us not become conceited, provoking one another, envying one another.

As believers, we are called to walk in the Spirit, and this enables us to bear fruit such as love, joy, peace, long-suffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control (vv. 5:22-23). These qualities are essential, as they demonstrate our commitment to following Christ. In contrast, living in the flesh leads to a different set of characteristics, including adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lewdness, idolatry, sorcery, hatred, contentions, jealousies, outbursts of wrath, selfish ambitions, dissensions, heresies, envy, murders, drunkenness, and revelries (Gal. 5:19-21). The consequences of such behaviors are severe, as those who practice them will not inherit the kingdom of God.

Beloved, many people today are easily weighed down by messages that constantly warn them of the dangers of living under the influence of the sinful flesh. One reason for this is that such individuals have not crucified their flesh and are still strangers to walking by the Spirit. Exhibiting the fruits of the Spirit is essential for any Christian who must make heaven at last. You must check how well you manifest the characters of God in your daily life by showing to everyone around you that Christ lives in you. The fruits of the Spirit and not the gifts of the Spirit, will show the beauty of Christ’s image in your activities today and always.

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has announced that candidates can now print their 2026 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) original result slips within two hours of issuance.

This was contained in a statement issued on Wednesday by JAMB’s spokesperson, Fabian Benjamin.

According to the statement, the original result slips include candidates’ photographs, national ranking, and other security features required for post-UTME screening and admission processes in tertiary institutions.

“The 2026 UTME Original Result Slip will be available for printing within the next two hours today, Wednesday, 17th June, 2026,” the statement said.

It added that the document is an official requirement for post-UTME processing and admission consideration by tertiary institutions.

“The Original Result Slip contains the candidate’s photograph, national ranking, and other security features. It is part of the official document required for post-UTME processing and consideration by tertiary institutions,” it stated.

JAMB also advised candidates that the slips can be printed using any internet enabled device, including personal computers, smartphones, or accredited business centres.

“Candidates can conveniently print their Original Result Slip from any internet enabled device, whether at home, in the office, or at accredited business centres,” the board added.

Candidates were urged to carefully verify their details after printing and retain copies for use during admission processes.

The 2026 UTME examinations were conducted in April, while a mop-up exercise was held on June 13 for candidates affected by technical glitches and biometric challenges.

JAMB released the mop-up results on June 16, 2026.

According to the board, printing of original result slips was temporarily delayed to allow completion of foreign-based examinations and mop-up exercises.

Earlier, on May 19, JAMB had appealed for patience while finalising the process.

With the release of the slips, candidates are now expected to proceed with post-UTME applications for the 2026/2027 academic session as tertiary institutions begin screening exercises.

The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has directed banks, fintech companies and other payment service providers to disclose their ultimate beneficial owners as part of new measures aimed at strengthening transparency and accountability within the country’s financial system.

The directive was contained in a circular issued on June 15, 2026, and signed by the Director of the Payments System Supervision Department, Dr. Rakiya Yusuf.

The circular was addressed to Deposit Money Banks, Microfinance Banks, Mobile Money Operators, switching companies, Payment Terminal Service Providers, Payment Solution Service Providers, Super Agents and other licensed participants in the payments ecosystem.

According to the apex bank, the rapid growth of electronic payments and digital financial services has improved innovation and financial inclusion but has also raised concerns over market concentration, ownership transparency, operational dependence and the handling of critical payment data.

To address these concerns, the CBN introduced a new framework designed to improve transparency, strengthen regulatory oversight and promote a more competitive and resilient payments sector.

Under the framework, all regulated financial institutions engaged in digital payment operations are required to disclose the Ultimate Beneficial Ownership (UBO) of significant shareholders.

The regulator also directed affected institutions to maintain accurate and updated records of beneficial ownership and make such information available whenever requested by the CBN.

According to the bank, the requirement aligns with existing Anti-Money Laundering, Counter-Terrorism Financing and Counter-Proliferation Financing regulations aimed at improving transparency within the financial sector.

In addition, the CBN introduced a mandatory data localisation policy requiring all payment transaction data generated within Nigeria to be stored and managed locally.

The apex bank directed all affected institutions to comply fully with the data localisation requirement on or before January 1, 2027.

The policy is expected to strengthen regulatory oversight, improve data security and ensure compliance with Nigeria’s data protection framework.

The CBN also unveiled new market structure rules aimed at preventing excessive dominance by individual operators across key segments of the payments industry.

Under the new guidelines, any institution controlling more than 25 per cent of the consumer issuing market over a rolling 12-month period will not be allowed to hold more than 15 per cent market share in merchant acquiring activities during the same period.

Likewise, institutions with more than 25 per cent market share in merchant acquiring will be restricted from holding more than 15 per cent market share in consumer issuing.

The restrictions will apply to activities conducted directly by an institution or through affiliated entities within the same corporate group.

According to the CBN, the measures are intended to reduce concentration risks, promote healthy competition and prevent dominant players from exercising excessive influence across multiple segments of the payments value chain.

To support effective monitoring, regulated entities have also been directed to submit monthly market share reports in line with prescribed reporting templates and timelines.

The apex bank gave operators until December 31, 2026, to fully comply with the new market structure requirements.

CBN stated that the measures were introduced to safeguard the integrity of the Nigerian payments system while ensuring the continued growth of digital financial services without creating risks capable of undermining financial stability.

The regulator added that it would closely monitor compliance and apply appropriate supervisory measures where necessary
