TOPIC: DO NOT GIVE UP
TEXT: Mark 10:46-52(NKJV)
- 10:46. Now they came to Jericho. As He went out of Jericho with His disciples and a great multitude, blind Bartimaeus, the son of Timaeus, sat by the road begging.
- 10:47. And when he heard that it was Jesus of Nazareth, he began to cry out and say, “Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me!”
- 10:48. Then many warned him to be quiet; but he cried out all the more, “Son of David, have mercy on me!”
- 10:49. So Jesus stood still and commanded him to be called. Then they called the blind man, saying to him, “Be of good cheer. Rise, He is calling you.”
- 10:50. And throwing aside his garment, he rose and came to Jesus.
- 10:51. So Jesus answered and said to him, “What do you want Me to do for you?” The blind man said to Him, “Rabboni, that I may receive my sight.”
- 10:52. Then Jesus said to him, “Go your way; your faith has made you well.” And immediately he received his sight and followed Jesus on the road.
STUDY:
From our text today, it is clear that blind Bartimaeus had the desire to regain his sight. He was tired of living a beggarly life which had placed him at the mercies of people. Seeing would afford him the opportunity of finding something doing and consequently, living a normal life to God’s glory.
However, this aspiration appeared to be a wishful thinking. No doctor could solve his problem. So he sat and begged, but kept hope alive. Now, as the Lord Jesus who knows our hearts and aspirations, passed by, Bartimaeus seized the moment and cried out for mercy. His cry for mercy exceeded those shouting him down. He would not be discouraged nor give up, until he received his sight.
Dear friend, what is that glorious ambition that you have which seems impossible because of your limitations? Just know that God’s mercy can lift you above them all. God lifts the poor out of the dunghill and makes him sit among princes. He is able to enlarge the coast of an individual condemned to a life of poverty.
All you need to do is to approach the throne of grace to obtain mercy. Be persistent and wait on the Lord in the pursuit of your goals. Do not give up. Just as Bartimaeus received his sight, you will see the goodness of God in the land of the living.
PRAYER:
O Lord, in your mercy, help me fulfill my dreams, in Jesus’ Name, Amen!
